FISA World Rowing Championships 2010

The 2010 event was the largest sports event in New Zealand since the 1990 Commonwealth Games.

The 2010 World Rowing Championships marked a turning point in both regional and national support of major events of this size.

2010 marked the second time a World Rowing Championships has come to Lake Karapiro and New Zealand. The first time was back in 1978 and that championship proved to be one of the more memorable in the global sport’s history.

The 2010 World Rowing Championships took place from the 30th October till the 8th Novembe r 2010. The full event budget was $15.5 million NZD built from a variety of public and private funding.

Partnership with global brands including AON, Coca Cola, Heineken, Samsung and Hyundai.

Construction of the first full sponsorship, brand and rights collateral for not only this event but as a legacy for the future of World Rowing events.

World’s highest attended World Rowing Championships ever with 87,000 sold tickets.

Volvo Ocean Race Auckland Stopover 2012, 2015, and 2018

The set up and complete delivery of New Zealand’s largest sports event in 2012, 2015 and 2018.

Mayo and Calder hosted the Volvo Ocean Race for the third time and with this being the longest stopover Auckland has ever hosted. Known as Volvo Ocean Race’s most storied stopovers, Mayo and Calder engaged in a comprehensive sponsorship campaign to secure a total of NZD$14 million funding and secure partnership with global brand such as MBIE, ATEED, NZME and Dimension Data.

Hosted over 280,000 people in 2012, over 350,000 people in 2015 and over 500,000 people in 2018 at the Volvo Ocean Race Stopover venue, 98% of attendees said the event exceeded their expectations.

Partnership with global brands including Coca Cola, Heineken, Pernod Ricard, Sky City, NZME, Peroni, Volvo Penta and Puma. Budget surplus for all events in 2012, 2015 and 2018.

Volvo Ocean Race Melbourne Stopover 2017

The set up and complete delivery of the Volvo Ocean Race Stopover in Melbourne in 2017

A city renowned for hosting annual premium sporting events, the Volvo Ocean Race was in good hands. With Melbourne being a last minute edition to the Volvo Ocean Race, Mayo and Calder delivered a compressed stopover during the Christmas/New Year Period.

Mayo and Calder hosted the venue in the Docklands' Harbour Esplanade of Melbourne city, working closely in partnership with District Docklands, Visit Victoria, Parks Victoria, and City of Melbourne.

Volvo Ocean Race Hong Kong Stopover 2018

The set up and complete delivery of the Volvo Ocean Race Stopover in Hong Kong in 2018

Hong Kong is known for its stunning skylines of the city, outstanding food and ancient traditions and for the first time Volvo Ocean Race has been brought to Hong Kong. With the race village being in such a new, remote location, Mayo and Calder had the challenge to deliver an extravagant event.

Mayo and Calder hosted over 103,000 people at the Volvo Ocean Race venue, and have secured partnership with global brands such as Hong Kong Sailing Federation, Home Affairs Bureau, HGC Global Communications and Arcadis Asia.

Key achievements

Partnership with global brands like Harbour City, Kerry hotel, Connoisseur Wines, Asia World City, Musto, GAC Pindar, Volvo Penta, Volvo Cars, and Mastervolt.

Successfully delivering the event in a hard to access location; Kai Tak Runway Park.

Promoting the location in further economic development in Hong Kong’s future projects.
